Friday night saw the return of Arlington native Maren Morris for her sold out show at The Bomb Factory in Dallas. When I arrived at the venue there was a line stretching down Canton Street for two city blocks, so to say that anticipation for show was high would be an understatement. Once inside the venue the energy level was beyond electric.
The show started with clips of women’s struggles and empowerment on the large screen as Maren rose from under the stage with a guitar and went into the title track from her latest album, Girl. The images and choice of opening song would set a theme for the night, one of women living, loving and fighting for their place in this world. The crowd sung along to every word and looked upon the stage to see someone who epitomized every word she was singing.
She made her way through all of her hit singles like “80’s Mercedes” and “My Church,” but most of the attention was placed on the songs off of her latest album. During breaks between songs she told the crowd that this album was written during a time that she fell in love with her now husband and how it has influenced the overall character of the album. She noted the song “To Hell and Back” was especially close to her heart since she and her husband had just celebrated their first year of marriage and the song was about the struggles they have met as a couple and the love that has grown from facing those struggles together.
That was just one of the heartfelt and honest conversations that she had with her audience over the course of the night. It was amazing how she made a room of 5,000 people feel like it was a small intimate gathering of friends. From start to finish the show was an emotional and energetic tour de force and it is definitely worth checking out if GIRL: The World Tour makes it’s way to your town.
